I'm the BBC's media correspondent and this is my brief selection of what's going on.

The Guardian says the BBC director-general Mark Thompson is expected to fight back against the Corporation's critics when he gives the keynote MacTaggart Lecture at the Edinburgh International Television Festival this evening.

The Daily Telegraph says Mark Thompson is expected to contrast the BBC's £2 billion a year spending on UK-produced programmes with Sky's policy of spending heavily on sports rights and movies.

X Factor contestants will no longer have their performances tweaked using sound filters, after the practice led to viewer complaints, the BBC reports.

The BBC's newspaper review highlights the papers analysis of the return of the former Polly Peck boss Asil Nadir to face justice.
