Breakfast is one of those BBC News programmes which have been particularly keen on using FOI to shed light on important topics.
The programme's revelations stemming from FOI include the extent of hospital car parking charges, the cost of the aborted police force mergers, and the ineffectiveness of knife amnesties.
If the proposed rules had already been in force, the BBC would probably not have been able to reveal these facts to viewers.

The knife amnesty, like all amnesties, is a load of rubbish.
How many criminals hands over knives or firearms at these amnesties?
Probably none.
What is more likely is friends and relatives turning in these 'weapons', after finding grandads old war trophies stuffed away in the loft for the last 60 years.
When is the real issue of 'gang mentality' going to be adressed?
