Pedal Power

Post categories:

Craig Frew | 10:31 UK time, Monday, 12 October 2009

Water pumps, concrete tile makers, sweetcorn shellers, nut crackers, food blenders and washing machines all powered by the wonders of the bicycle. During the course of the weekend Mark paid a visit to Maya Pedal, an organisation who give old bikes a new lease of life by transforming them into farming machinery to help rural Guatemalan communities.

Bike transformed into a corn in the cob sheller. Find more of these fantastic machines on flickr.

Many of the bikes, donated from all over the United States are repaired and used within the community but some are recycled into some unusual and useful farming machinery.

Discover the full set of pictures from Mark's visit to Maya Pedal on flickr and see if you can figure out how to use them!
