Today I'm (Jem) in Bradford taking part in a launch day for what we're calling the BBC Innovation labs. The strapline is "seeking regional companies to imagine the future of bbc.co.uk". Its a pilot project to commission early stage prototypes from indies and developers in the North West, Yorkshire and London. We'll be reporting on its progress on Backstage and eventually the products that this project will help support will be hosted here. There are further events in North West and London later this month.

Two quick things:

Matt Locke (Head of Innovation at bbc.co.uk) who is running the events has just cited these Backstage prototypes; Davy Mitchell's Mood News, and Mario Menti's searching BBC schedules with IM to illustrate how the Backstage community has developed and implemented some great ideas.

Tony Ageh, the BBC's Controller, Internet said as part of his presentation.

"The BBC needs to break out of its website and be part of the internet. We need to make our solutions available to everyone else."
