Asian Network University Tour - Nottingham
What a night! The Tour officially kicked off in one of my favourite cities in the UK. Nottingham has never failed to be a great place to party. Last night was no different. The one like Bobby Friction blasted off the tour with a wicked set playing some of the best Desi, D&B and grimey vibes. Jinx followed with a hype performance accompanied by Billa Sahota, a guy with an amazing voice. I loved the Jinx remix of “Akhian Udeek Diyan”.
Des-C and I grabbed the mics shortly after and got to work hyping the crowd while Mak jumped on the decks and dropped some heavy Bhangra, Hip Hop, Grime, Funky House and Drum & Bass.
D Boy represented on a live tip, showcasing songs from The Playback Project with artists like Shareefa and Rabia. Accompanied by a guitarist, he brought with him what looked like half his studio on stage!
The Specialist dropped a set and there was some new talent in the form of a local Beatboxer called Lyppicool.Broadcast live on Friction, the Nottingham leg of the Uni Tour was a memorable introduction to what should be an amazing month of live music, DJ Sets and some of the most colourful characters in the Asian Music Industry.
The Asian Network is the place where hidden gems are discovered, and the Uni Tour is gonna bring this new talent to the UK. It’s a great look for everyone involved as well as the University students attending. Can’t wait for the rest of the tour.I think UK talent has never looked stronger, both on a desi and a street music tip. What do you think? Which names are killing it right now for you?
