Public Places, Private Lives
Trafalgar Square is a must-see destination on any tourist map of the UK.
From the imperial conquests represented on Nelson's column to the point in the south of the square (the original Charing Cross) from which all distances are measured, it's an iconic public space representing Britain's face to the rest of the world.

It has also become one of the world's great meeting places, a venue for demonstrations, concerts and a great throng of foreign exchange students, among others.
But beyond the public pomp of years gone by and behind the lenses of the tourists' cameras are the lives and stories of those for whom this space exists as an everyday environment.
This programme looks behind the scenes at Trafalgar Square - revealing the private life of a public place.
