A documentary about John Wojtowicz, the man whose failed bank robbery inspired the 1975 film "Dog Day Afternoon", starring Al Pacino. It tells the true story of Wojtowicz who attempts to rob a bank in 1972 to pay for his lover's gender reassignment.But the robbery was bungled,hostages were taken and Wojtowicz's partner in crime was killed. He served a prison term and was released in 1978. Wojtowicz himself,who died of cancer in 2006, is now the subject of a documentary, The Dog, which attempts to get into grips with his larger-than-life figure. It will be shown on the BBC's Storyville on Wednesday 18 February.
