The imposing red brick building on the left hand
side of the River Yare, is Great Yarmouth Town Hall. On
the other side of the bridge, the modern office block houses the
coastguard.
But Haven Bridge itself is the star of this photograph.
It is a double bascule - or counterpoised - construction which opens
to allow shipping to pass along the river.
Until a second river crossing was opened in 1985,
Haven Bridge suffered from congestion as the town's only river crossing.
At night it is now illuminated from beneath with
twinkling lights , thanks to a millennium face-lift.
