2011 really was the year of Jessie J, the Essex singer quickly followed up here Sound of 2011 nomination with a Brit Critic's Choice Award and a double-platinum debut album Who You Are, which sold more copies than the remainder of the Sound of 2011 longlist put together. Second placed James Blake was nominated for the Mercury Prize with his self-titled first album, while 3rd placed The Vaccines won over a host of new followers with a relentless touring schedule that included key festival appearances across Europe.
Other success stories from 2011 included Wretch 32, who hit number 1 with Don't Go from universally acclaimed album Black and White, Warpaint, who charmed festival audiences on both side of the Atlantic with soothing melodies from LP The Fool and Anna Calvi, who joined the aforementioned Blake on the Mercury Prize shortlist with her debut release.
