The synthpop revival dominated 2009's Sound Of list, with the likes of Passion Pit, La Roux and Empire Of The Sun joining winner Little Boots in the Top Ten.
Blackpool born Little Boots first came to prominence through the demo Stuck On Repeat, produced by Hot Chip's Joe Goddard. An appearance on Later... with Jools Holland followed, before the Sound Of list brought the singer and her Japanese tenori-on instrument to a wider audience. Her debut album Hands garnered much critical praise and reached number 5 in the UK album charts in June of that year.
Further UK success came from the BBC Introducing supported Florence + The Machine, who went on from third place to bag an impressive haul of Brit, Q and MTV awards for album Lungs. The singer has since collaborated with 2003 listed artist Dizzee Rascal on mash up You've Got the Dirtee Love and headlined Radio 1's Big Weekend.
The Sound of 2009 list was also one of the first to highlight the talents of New York's Lady Gaga. The singer has since become one of the most internationally renowned artists in music today, topping charts globally with debut album The Fame and singles Poker Face, Bad Romance and Telephone.
