Radio 2 announces winner of the Young Brass Awards 2016
BBC Radio 2 has announced the winner of this year’s Young Brass Awards 2016.

Many congratulations to Daniel on being crowned winner of the Young Brass Award 2016. The standard was exceptionally high again this year and winning this prestigious accolade was thoroughly deserved.
Daniel Thomas, 21, from Rhymney, South Wales was crowned champion after a closely-fought competition that saw four finalists compete at the event held in the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester on Friday 15 April.
As part of the final the finalists played alongside the world-famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band. The show was hosted by Radio 2 presenters Frank Renton and Ken Bruce.
The other finalists this year included:
Samuel Dye - Trombone
Benjamin Goldscheider - French Horn
Kyle MacCorquodale - Bass Trombone
Daniel, who plays the euphonium, will now get his own session on Listen To The Band and a broadcast performance with an already established group.

The Radio 2 Young Brass Award is a nationwide search open to all talented young brass musicians aged 16-21. The awards provide young musicians with the chance to perform with some of the best brass talents around and demonstrate their musical expertise on national stages. The Young Brass Award has launched the careers of Grant Jameson, Matilda Lloyd, Lewis Musson and Katrina Marzella to name a few.
