Snoozing on the beach

Indulge in nostalgia.

What was life really like in the Isle of Man during the last century? We want to hear your memories.

What did you get up when you were in the first throws of youth?  What were the attitudes of your elders, how was the Isle of Man Government regarded and what events shaped your life?

Isle of Man Ferry

You have the chance to tell us all this and more as BBC Isle of Man launches "Memoryshare"

What is Memoryshare?

It's a BBC project which aims to gradually piece together an intriguing people's history of Britain, based on your experiences.

What can you do?

You can post memories which relate to any location in the world (it doesn't just have to be the Isle of Man)

You can post a memory of an important event, whether it be personal (your wedding, the birth of your first child) or public (what you were doing when Diana died, how you felt after the Summerland Disaster).

Manx Museum

You can post a memory of a small event, even if you don't think it seems important (blackberry picking, your first pet, getting your ears pierced).

You can also comment on other people's memories.

To get you started we invite you to help weave a picture of the post war tourism boom in the Isle of Man.

Corporate conferences, walking holidays and luxury weekend breaks. Tourism in the Isle of Man today isn't what it used to be.

Luggage Label

In days gone by the tourist season began at Whitsuntide and lasted until the end of the Grand Prix.

It was a time when local hoteliers worked day and night to make enough money to see them through the winter months when the streets of Douglas were left all but deserted.

It was a time of dance halls, all day drinking and endless days on the beach, we know this much and now we need you to fill in the gaps.
